Some family photos: Robbs and Webbs

My cousin Barbara and her husband Glyn have kindly sent me some scanned photos from the album of Barbara’s mother Grace (my dad’s older sister). Grace Mary Emily Robb was born in East Ham in 1921, the first child of my grandparents, Arthur Ernest Robb (1897 – 1979) and Mary Emily Elizabeth (Polly) Webb (1898 – 1965). Grace married Alwin Edwin Brammer in 1947. They lived in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, and had four children, of whom Barbara is the eldest.

Grace with my dad (early 1940s?)

In this post, I want to share some photos from Grace’s album that show members of my grandmother, Polly Webb’s family. Here, for example, is a picture of my great grandmother – another Polly Webb – who was born Mary French in Stepney in 1874, and married George Webb:

Mary (Polly) Webb, nee French, born 1874

The next photo shows my grandmother, Polly Webb the younger, with (on the left of the picture) her sister Jessie Caroline (1899 – 1978). I’m not sure who the woman on the right is. Jessie had married John Bennett in 1923, and the child she is holding may be her son Kenneth, born in the following year. The two little girls with my grandmother are her daughters Grace and Kit. Since the latter was born in 1923 and looks about 5 or 6 in the photo, it must have been taken in the mid- to late-1920s. My gran would have been in her late twenties at the time.

Finally, I think I’m right in saying that the woman on the left of the next photo – pictured on the beach with Grace and her brothers Arthur (back), Alan and Peter (my dad) – is another Grace, my grandmother’s younger sister.
