Thanks to Glyn, my cousin Barbara’s husband, for this link to a directory of trades in Malton, Yorkshire in 1823. Charles Robb is listed as an ‘accountant and engraver’ in Newbiggin. Until now, the latest date I’ve had for the Robbs in Yorkshire was 1820, when Charles’ daughter Elizabeth was born. Now it’s possible to narrow the date of their move to London to between 1823 at the earliest and 1836 (the date of son William’s marriage in London) at the absolute latest. At some point, I’ll try to list the many different professions followed by Charles – he was certainly versatile!
