Some time ago Diane Babington – one of my Ancestry contacts, whose late husband was a descendant from William Robb’s second marriage to Marianne Mansfield Palmer – sent me an electronic copy of the last will and testament of Charles Edward Stuart Robb, who died in 1853. I’ve just found it again:
Here’s my attempt to transcribe it, leaving the original grammar intact (? = illegible word or unclear meaning):
This is the last Will and Testament of me Charles Robb of No. 40 Tenison Street ? Road Lambeth in the County of Surrey Gentleman I give to my son William Robb my watch and chain and also ? Rings worn by me for his own use and benefit I give and bequeath to my said William Robb all my household goods and furniture wearing apparel and all other articles of domestic use or consumpton of which I may be (?) possesed and also all the use residue of my estate and effect whatsoever and whosover (?) ? trust to sell or otherwise convert the same into money and out of the proceeds thereof to pay my just debts and funeral and testamentary ? and after payment thereof to pay and divide the surplus equally between himself the said William Robb my son John Robb and my two daughters Matilda Robb and Elizabeth Boden as tenant in common the share of the said Elizabeth Boden to be free from the debts or control of her husband and appoint my said son William Robb sole executor of this my will and I thereby revoke all other wills by me at any time heretofore made and declare this to be my last and only one in witness thereof I Lewis William Miller in the presence of the same Charles Robb the testator and by this direction have to this his last Will and Testament subscribed this signature (?) the ninth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty three – Charles Robb – signed by Lewis William Miller as the last Will and Testament of the same Charles Robb the testator in his presence by his direction in the presence of us present and the same time in this presence and also in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses.
